The Name Game
Brought to you by the letters: D, G, and the number 5.
So, today I received a smile from a person named "Buuni".
Which is funny because, well who the heck names their child "Buuni"?! In Filipino, the word buni actually means ringworm. Might as well have named the child "Pimple" or "Scab" or simply "Ringworm" and then they can call him "Ringo" for short. That would be awesome! Kind of like a gross Beatle… Parents should be extremely careful of what they name their children.
And speaking of naming children, ever since I was a child, I’ve been obsessed with names. I’d constantly note down names that I liked, in hopes that I could, in the future, change my name to that, since I was never really fond of my name because it was too darn long. Writing down "Danabelle Hazel Ramirez Gutierrez" (Thank goodness they didn’t require the conyo-apelyido version which would be DelRosario-Ramirez Reynado-Gutierrez. Oh the horror!) on every gosh darn friggin’ paper that needed to be handed in class is just too much for a 5 year old kid… But that was then, and now, I have grown to love my name. There aren’t many "Danabelles", and I’m glad to be one of them. However, I still note down names that I like, this time it’s to name my future babies. Yes, I am that anal-retentive.
As most Filipinos, I get so caught up in the name-letter-thingyblahblah i.e. your child’s name should start with whatever letter your name or your spouse’s name starts with… But people don’t call me a mean elitist bitch for nothing. I say, forget the husband’s name-letter and I’ll just name my baby whatever I want to name it, seeing that I’ll be the one going through all the work anyway, I think deserve to name my baby whatever I wish, except Buuni. No, no. No child with Filipino blood should be named that. That’s just too mean for words. Up until now, I always wanted my baby to have the initials DJ, just cause it sounds cool. But I’ve thought about it, and I thought DG would be even better, because those are my initials. And my initials are awesome. Haha. So, should my children happen to be fathered by someone whose last name does not start with G, they’d still have my awesome initials. Unless of course the daddy’s last name starts with an R… Then I’d just let that fly, so I could pretend all my children are DRs. (Doctors, doofus, DOCTORS.) Anyway, I’ve noted down the following so far:
For the boys’ first names, I picked
Dodge - From the movie "Message in a Bottle". It was the name of Kevin Costner’s character’s dad (Na-follow mo ba? Haha!).
Dash - Just ’cause it’s cool… And short, so I won’t have to worry about my baby wanting to change his name like I did. And also because, it’s "Danabelle" and "Josh" merged together. Adiikk. Nyahahaha. I’m kidding! I’m keeddeeng!
Dylan - Let’s just say that Brenda, Brandon, Kelly, Donna, David, Andrea and I forget the other guy’s name were my bestfriends growing up. And it didn’t hurt any that Dylan was uber hawwtt and as a 10-year-old I used to fantasize of me and him getting married and having babies, one of which would be called Dylan Jr. For those of you who are going "WTF is she talking about?", just ask any of the 90’s children. They know.
Dante - Because it’s so Hacienda-Don-like.
And for their second names
Given - Because children are given by God.
Garth - Because I love that name.
Gabriel - Because who wouldn’t want an angel’s name for their baby?
Gamaliel - Because it just rolls right off your tongue and if you knew what it meant, you’d want to name your baby that, too.
I’m still not sure what to pair with what… But so far those are the boy names that I want.
And for the baby girl I picked (Yes, I want four boys and one girl. The bunso preferably being twins –One boy and one girl. I told you, I’m anal.)
Danabelle Holly - Danabelle because, well, duh. If I have to explain why then you’re not fit to read my blog. And Holly because I like. It’s my baby, I will name her what I want. Although, I also like the initials MM and the name Michaela Mija (Pronounced as MEE-HAH. Look it up in a Spanish dictionary, conyo.) is sounding pretty good right about now.
Of course, all of the above are subject to change, as people who know me, know that I change my mind rather easily…
"What brought about this baby names post?", you may ask. Well, it’s because my bestest friend, Irog is due any day now.
<< I love her!
And so, I’ve been bitten by the baby bug. I so want one, too… Ack. But of course that’s not gonna happen anytime soon, so I’ll just have to be content with naming imaginary babies.
Oh but look at me, all self-absorbed, I’ve forgotten to ask, what names have you thought of for your future/present children?
P.S.: I can’t view my blog or any Friendster blog for that matter. Ack. Friendster, fix! Fix! Now na. Now na. Now naaaa.
